Chain is built to need as little of your data as possible. There are no accounts, and your game progress never leaves your device. This page explains the few places data is involved.
Chain (“we”, “us”) is a free daily word game available at playthechaingame.com. You can reach us at hello@playthechaingame.com.
Your stats, streak, badge collection, calendar, and in-progress chain are stored in your browser using local storage. This information stays on your device, is not transmitted to us, and is not stored on any server. Clearing your browser data for this site will erase it.
We use Vercel Analytics to understand aggregate, anonymous traffic (such as how many people visit and which pages load). It does not use cookies and does not identify individual visitors.
Chain does not show ads. We do not use an advertising network, we do not set advertising cookies, and no third-party advertiser receives data about your visit. Hosting is covered by an optional Buy Me a Coffee link in the footer, which only sees anything if you choose to click it and is handled entirely on their site.
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California), you may have rights to access, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data. Because we don’t collect accounts or store personal data on a server, most of your data is already in your control: clearing this site’s browser storage removes your game progress, which is the only data Chain keeps about you. Chain is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “last updated” date above.
